How To

Mirroring

Enhanced AirPlay Mirroring

To coincide with the release of the new iPad and Apple TV we’ve massively enhanced mirroring in AirServer. We completely re-desiged mirroring to take full advantage of the new iPad’s improved performance.

The result:

  • Smoother graphics
  • Massively enhanced picture quality
  • Extremely responsive for gameplay
  • High frame rates – typically 60+ FPS

One thing that has always been lacking with mirroring in general is getting a decent picture quality. This is because mirroring projects a small display from an iOS device on to a larger screen. The result is a dull and blurry picture.

To solve this issue we moved our rendering code into the graphics processor and added new post-processing video filters. This gives users complete control over picture quality without loosing any performance on a modern Mac. The results, as you can see below, speak for themselves.

AirPlay enabled 3rd Party Apps

Enjoy streaming from 3rd party apps.

AirServer is compatible with a wide variety of AirPlay enabled third party applications. Vevo, PBS, AirVideo, StreamToMe you name it!

Feature Requirements:

  • Mac OS X running Snow Leopard
  • AirPlay capable device running iOS 4.2.1 or newer
  • AirPlay sending devices must be on the same WiFi network

Audio Streaming

It'll be music to your ears.

Audio streaming from your iOS to your Mac/iOS is finally here!

AirServer is the first Mac/iOS application that lets you stream audio directly to your computer/iOS device from iTunes or another iOS device. This is a highly prized feature in and of itself, but AirServer’s audio streaming goes above and beyond the call of duty. In addition to streaming audio content from your iOS device or iTunes, you can close any 3rd party audio streaming app without disrupting the music!

AirServer is a perfect way to share audio on another computer or iOS device whether you are at work, at school, or visiting family and friends. Seamlessly stream audio without having to worry about synching/sharing or convoluted installation instructions. AirServer is straightforward and easy-to-use: it just works.

As AirServer has rapidly developed, however, ‘no-frills’ has turned into instant thrills.

Now you can also:

  • select the audio device you wish to stream to and control its volume
  • regulate audio delay/buffer size
  • specify the audio output device while streaming a video (AirServer for Mac)
  • stream simultaneous audio to AirServer
  • apply password protection

AirServer’s audio playback automatically pauses iTunes (if it is playing), and volume levels now revert back to their original settings after audio streaming ends.

And this is just the beginning! AirServer for iOS also makes it possible to forward a stream of audio on to another iOS device, and another, and another...

Feature Requirements:

  • Mac running OS X Tiger / Leopard / Snow Leopard / Lion / Mountain Lion (Intel/PPC)
  • AirPlay capable device running iOS 4.2.1 or newer
  • iTunes: 9.2 or newer
  • AirPlay sending devices must be on the same WiFi network

Video Streaming

Super smooth video playback.

AirServer's rich video streaming and smooth playback will blow your mind.

AirServer is your home entertainment system’s missing link. Simply hook your Mac/iOS device up to an HDTV and stream movies, TV shows, trailers, or other video content to it over AirPlay. Voilà.

And now AirServer has even been optimized for dedicated Mac Mini’s connected to home theater systems running Plex or XBMC. AirServer will automatically hide other fullscreen applications, playback its content and revert back to the previous system-state after playback finishes.

You will no doubt be impressed by the rich video streaming capabilities and smooth playback that AirServer has to offer, not to mention how easy it is to select your preferred video/audio output device! Fullscreen and windowed mode are both supported!

Those of you running Lion also will instantly notice the sleek and snappy new video player that makes video streaming better than ever. Although older systems will still need QuickTime for video-streaming, they’ll nevertheless get to utilize our brand-new photo and slideshow players; these optimized players seamlessly support multiple displays, mouse gestures, and keyboard shortcuts.

Feature Requirements:

  • AirPlay capable device running iOS 4.2.1 or newer
  • iTunes: 10.2.0 or newer
  • AirPlay sending devices must be on the same WiFi network

Photo & Slideshow Streaming

Stream slide shows, photos & personal videos.

AirServer makes the Photos app more versatile than before.

Ever been at the office, or visiting friends, and wished you could show off your latest photos or home videos?

Now you can, because AirServer supports photo, slideshow, and personal video streaming from the Photos app. This means no more having to flick through an entire vacation album photo-by-photo, and you’ll get a guaranteed kick out of instantly recording and streaming your personal videos onto a bigger screen or another iOS device!

Our re-engineered photo and slideshow players are the first to support slideshow streaming with music and animation, and streamed content will even render on top of FrontRow/XBMC/Plex; your cursor will also magically disappear until you’re finished streaming.

Feature Requirements:

  • AirPlay capable device running iOS 4.2.1 or newer (photos)
  • AirPlay capable device running iOS 4.3.1 or newer (personal videos)
  • AirPlay sending devices must be on the same WiFi network

YouTube? You bet!

This ubiquitous app just got better.

Sooner or later, the house-party is going to end up in ‘let-me-show-you-what-I-saw-on-YouTube’ mode, so it’s a good thing AirServer supports streaming from the YouTube app. Have you seen the sneezing baby panda? What about the ticklish penguin?

Feature Requirements:

  • Streaming from YouTube app (YouTube over Safari not supported)
  • AirPlay capable device running iOS 4.2.1 or newer
  • AirPlay sending devices must be on the same WiFi network
